Understanding Geo Grids
Local search (and local SEO) is all about location and proximity. If a person is currently sitting in their car in Los Angeles, and does a Google Maps search for "Lawyer near me" there will be no San Francisco-based law offices that will come up with a ranking of less than 50. That's because Google prioritizes the people closest to the CURRENT location of the searcher.
If the searcher is searching one block away from Dewey's Law Offices, and if Dewey's Law Offices has a Google Business Profile that is fairly well optimized, then there is a good chance that for that location it will come up as 1st. However, if the searcher is sitting in his car 5 blocks away and searches for a lawyer from that location, then - depending on the competition in the area -, they may only come up as 5th and get an Orange circle with a 5 in it.
So each circle in your 7x7 grid corresponds to what your ranking would be if the searcher was sitting in their car in that location (wherever that circle is on the map) and launched a search for, let's say, "plumber near me". If your company came up 7th in the list, then there would be a circle with the number 7 in it at that location.
